Papayo.ai
We’re a Munich-based HR tech startup building a next-generation recruitment automation platform. Our product helps agencies and in-house recruiters streamline outreach, connect multiple sourcing channels, and automate candidate communications from first contact to hire.

Our core stack includes TypeScript, ReactJS, Node.js, Fastify, PostgreSQL, and AWS, with Docker and Git for development and deployment, and Jira for task tracking, working in short Agile iterations.

The Role
We’re looking for a strong full-stack engineer who leans toward the back end with solid DevOps experience, and ideally some exposure in building AI or ML systems.

You’ll play a key role in elevating our engineering standards, building scalable systems, and helping shape our next stage of growth.

You’ll start as an individual contributor, shipping production-ready code early and helping scale our platform as we grow. Over time, you’ll influence architecture, best practices, and mentor teammates.

Responsibilities

  • Build, optimise, and maintain backend systems using Node.js (TypeScript) and Fastify.
  • Design APIs and data models across PostgreSQL, Sequelize, and AWS OpenSearch.
  • Own and evolve CI/CD pipelines and serverless deployments on AWS Lambda.
  • Manage cloud infrastructure (AWS + GCP) for performance, reliability, and security.
  • Collaborate on AI-powered features using the Gemini API and Google AI Platform.
  • Uphold and improve coding standards, DevOps automation, and documentation.
  • Contribute to architecture decisions that balance pragmatism and scalability.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience building and maintaining modern web applications.
  • Strong backend foundation in Node.js (preferably TypeScript).
  • Comfortable contributing to the frontend using React (TypeScript, Vite, Tailwind) to deliver clean, performant interfaces when needed.
  • Proven experience in DevOps, including CI/CD pipelines, AWS/GCP, monitoring, and automation.
  • Skilled in API design, data modelling, and performance optimisation.
  • Proficient with PostgreSQL, Sequelize, and cloud-native architectures.
  • Familiarity with serverless (AWS Lambda) and containerisation (Docker) workflows.
  • Bonus: exposure to AI/ML workflows, LLM APIs, or search systems (e.g., OpenSearch).
  • Good understanding of testing, scalability, and security best practices.
  • Experience in early-stage startups, or a strong motivation to thrive in one.

Conditions

  • Full-time commitment (around 8 hours per day) with flexible working hours
  • Freelance / B2B position paid from Germany
  • Payment based on an hourly rate
  • Open to candidates with legal freelance or business status in Europe (We can't pay to Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Central Asia, and Georgia)
  • Fully remote within European time zones
  • Small, collaborative international team
